join forces with customers for a stronger, smarter grid
How can utilities orient to customer needs, synergize with customer investments, and elevate innovation and abundance?”
Electricity is no longer a uniform product, and customers are increasingly seeking reliable, affordable, and sustainable power. With access to tools that promote energy independence, customers are making electrification decisions and investing in self-generation if utility service costs and performance risks are too high. These decisions, often disconnected from grid planning, conflict with the traditional utility business model. However, customer energy choices are crucial for community health, economic prosperity, and grid sustainability. The industry struggles to integrate these modern customer behaviors into a cohesive, whole-grid investment strategy.
Customers are making electrification decisions and pairing with self-generation if the cost and performance risks of utility service are too high. They are making these decisions and investments often in a manner disconnected from other grid planning efforts and in conflict with the utility business model. Their ability to access abundant energy is a key to the health of people and communities, and to our nation’s economic prosperity. But the industry struggles with internalizing the modern customer’s freedoms and energy-related decisions into a sustainable and whole-grid investment strategy.
The customer energy management session of the GRIDIRON Dialogues, (host and moderators to be announced) will de-mystify the customer decision-making process, compare and contrast a variety of mechanisms to better align customer and ratepayer investments, and explore the diversity of customer energy management solutions as an opportunity to support strong and sustainable industry expansion.
